Le Jazz is an ensemble formed by Washinton D.C. area guitar legend Michael Fath which features bassist and co-producer Golder O'Neill, along with supreme pedal steel and dobro player, Casey O'Neal. They've performed their original jazz compositions at Blues Alley and the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage, and have currently released their first original jazz/fusion CD, The Chase Is On . Fans familiar with Fath's multi-genre approach on his song "Le Jazz Metallique" from the 1988 album "Flick Of The Wrist" will have an introduction to the creative blend of styles and tones found on this CD. You'll get both clean leads and overdriven, sweep-picked, blazing solos and trade-offs with O'Neal, backed by a horn section and grooving, at times funky, rhythm section. Give the sound clips a listen; no text description seems adequate to describe fully the musical gumbo found on The Chase Is On . MORE INFO OR BUY NOW

Guitarist Michael Fath starts the millennium with a trio record (Andy Hamburger pounds the skins, while Chris Neubauser provides deep bass) entitled Yesterday's Child . The CD is a fusion tour-de-force as Fath mixes, melds, chops, slices and dices musical styles from song to song with comfortable ease. The guitarmanship is stellar, with tracks such as "Faith", "Heads I Groove, Tails You Move" (dedicated to Jeff Beck), "Class Reunion", and "As Summer Fades" featuring incredibly fluid solos, immaculate, improvised melodic lines and Fath's own, world renowned guitar techniques, done up in a fusion/rock/jazz blend (with the overdrive kicked up a notch at key moments). For a completely different feel, try "Cosmic Cowboy" (dedicated to Danny Gatton), a country guitar and banjitar showcase tune perfect for any high energy hoedown or supercharged hayride. The aggressive blaze of "Dreamscape" (dedicated to John McLaughlin) closes Yesterday's Child , which will once again have you wondering how one guitarist can pull off such feats of six string magic. Baptism By Desire is guitarist Michael Fath's first all acoustic, all instrumental, all solo guitar CD with styles crossing everything from classical to jazz to hot country to rockabilly to bluegrass to flamenco -- sometimes within the same piece. Selections include "Malaguena" (a rock'n roll conception of the wonderous art of flamenco guitar), "Lost In Blue" (blues in the verses with a Travis Picking chorus), "Southern Maiden" (inspired by years of listening to bluegrass banjo, fiddle, mandolin and guitar), "Rockabye Danny" (a tribute to Fath's favorite guitar player, the late Danny Gatton) and "A Rose For Lisa" (dedicated to Fath's sister-in-law who is fighting cancer). Baptism By Desire closes, however, on an impressionistic note, with "Shenandoah Valley Suite" providing the perfect soundtrack for a long and leisurely drive south. Country Squire was the debut of Michael Fath's Virginia Rangers, modeled after Steve Morse's amazing Dixie Dregs. Featuring the same instrumentation as the Dregs (drums, bass, keyboards, fiddle and guitar), the music edges slightly more to the jazz/country side at times, with the rock side surfacing whenever there was enough single malt scotch available. The violinist, Robert Spates, is world class, giving the other musicians a run for their money one every tune. Country Squire established Fath as a critically acclaimed country player (see Guitar World and Guitar Magazine) to go along with his rock, jazz and classical guitar technique arsenal. Highly enjoyable. MORE INFO OR BUY NOW LISTEN TO SAMPLE |

Suspended Animation , from guitarist Michael Fath, highlights the Virginia shredder's unique tone, wicked wah-wah work and complex compositional style. The nine cuts comprising the CD feature the incredible speed and dexterity of Fath's single note work, and include a '90's-style, Pentium-speed remake of Deep Purple's chugging classic, "Highway Star" as well as a guitaristic reinterpretaion of the classic "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place". Suspended Animation also includes several acoustic pieces performed on classical guitar -- adding another dimension to an artist more versatile than the majority of contemporary musicians. Sonic Tapestries was Washington D.C.-based guitarist Michael Fath's third record as a national act, and included plenty of terrifying licks and leads. When released in 1990, Mark Mitchell at Guitar World magazine gave this CD an excellent review and it was featured as the selection of the month. This CD is one of Fath's personal favorites, as it again covers many styles of music while showcasing a maturation of his technique and composition. Sonic Tapestries features the brilliant "The Emerald Isle" and "Innocence Of Youth" as well as a fiery cover version of the Focus hit "Hocus Pocus" complete with bass solos and wickedly fast guitar work. Shake , from guitarist Michael Fath, is here in all its guitar orgy glory, and you'll find Fath pushing himself to a new level of musical explosiveness. The twelve cuts on Shake alternate between ripping electric sonic mayhem and flowery acoustic interludes, and include a scorching remake of Edgar Winter's instrumental classic, "Frankenstein". Flick Of The Wrist is an outstanding instrumental album featuring the incredible 6-string talents of Michael Fath. This album, released in 1988, was his first for a national label and put Fath in the company of the very best instrumentalists of the 1980's. Fath did everything on this CD -- metal to jazz to neoclassical, with his requisite acoustic adornments. In addition to one-of-a-kind originals such as "Le Jazz Metallique", "Rage" and "Jade", Flick Of The Wrist includes the Frank Zappa cover "Peaches En Regalia" and modern versions of classical compositions by Vivaldi and Paganini. Profile features guitarist and composer Michael Fath alone in the studio -- except for a number of guitars, namely electric, acoustic (both nylon string and steel string), and even includes his one and only lute track. A parallel solo project recorded during Fath's stint in the band Orphan, Profile was meant to display the 'other things' he was into at the time (around 1984). The CD features some very sophisticated electric guitar orchestrations along with many classical guitar and steel-string acoustic pieces. Profile was responsible for Fath's first 'big time' endorsement deal with Kramer Guitars. MORE INFO OR BUY NOW LISTEN TO SAMPLE |

The Early Years spans a ten-year period from 1978 through 1987, and involves five vocal groups that guitarist Michael Fath was involved with during that period. Selections include tracks from the bands Wizzard (a five piece rock and roll band reminiscent of Queen, Styx and Todd Rundgren), Orphan (a power trio with the fabulous front singer Kris Pettit-Fath that were described as 'Van Halen with a girl'), King Dazzle (another power trio featuring fast, under-four-minute rockers), Meyerriecks and Fath (an acoustic duo modeled after Al DiMeola and Paco De Lucia instrumental projects) and the Michael Fath Band (commercial heavy rock, whatever that is). The Early Years is a fascinating look back at the vocal and band recordings that helped Michael Fath develop his indominable instrumental style, which hit the scene a few years later.
